Public Examination - Mon 13-Oct-08 / Thu 16-0ct-08 & Fri 17-Oct-08
Commencing on Monday 13th October Barnet Council will hold a public examination hearing as to the soundness of their Area Action Plan (AAP) with regard to the re-development of Mill Hill East.
The hearing will take place in Committee Room 1, Barnet House, 1255 High Road, London N20 0EJ.
On Thursday 16th October the hearing will address the issue of Sanders Lane and its inclusion in the AAP documents. This is scheduled for 10:00am.
If you can please come along and show your support for the campaign. The summary of representations shows that there were many objections to the re-opening of Sanders Lane so lets show Barnet Council that we are still against this proposal.

Latest News :
Wednesday 16th July 2008 - Pre-examination Meeting
This is a formal meeting being held by Douglas Machin, who is the Inspector who has been appointed by the Secretary of State to independently examine the soundness of the AAP. This is a procedural meeting explaining how Mr Machin will handle the enquiry. The details of representations will not be considered at the meeting. Everybody who has put in a representation will have been invited to attend. SSL will be sending a representative to the meeting.
Sunday 13th July 1.00 - 3.00 pm - THE BIG PICNIC
08/07/08 - We are holding a picnic this Sunday on Sanders Lane. The main area will be by the bridge on the lane (Sanders Lane Green). If it's a rainly day we will be getting together in the Scout Hut.
Not only does the Big Picnic give opportunity to discuss representations submitted but we would very much like eveybody to have any new ideas and opinions heard.
This will be a fun and informal day for all the family - inlcuding face painting for children, guided nature walks , information of the history of Mill Hill and more.
Everybody is invited and we really hope you can come along and show your support.
Please bring your own picnic and rugs.
24/06/08 - Thank you to everyone who has contacted us. We will be going through each and every e-mail over the next week. Unfortunately, as this whole issue was sprung on us all at such short notice, we have received a mini avalanche of e-mails. That is not to say that we don't need more, we most certainly do. Every single name added to our campaign will help us, so please, please continue with your efforts (See Petition Sheets page).
We will continue to keep this website updated and would appreciate any ideas that you may have for inclusion. We are putting random comments received on the 'your comments' page. However, if you have something that you wish us to publish, then please inform us specifically.
Numerous Representations were sent into the council yesterday and over the forthcoming weeks we will publish extracts from some of these to show how the Area Action Plan is unsound. A number of people have sent in their objections to the council via e-mail as they were unable to complete the official Representation form, as dictated by the council. Well done to all those people who did this in order to have your voice heard.SSL most definitely agree with residents that the official Representation was very off putting, especially for the elderly.
Althought the Representation deadline had now passed, the SSL campaign will most definitely continue until such time as we receive 'plain english' replies from the Council and we are all given a fair opportunity to have our opinions heard.
The questions that we are asking the council re the inclusion of Sanders lane in the AAP are still being met with the following reply :
"Any measures to return Sanders Lane into the public highway network are independant of the proposals to redevelop the Mill Hill East site. We are currently carrying out a feasibility study into re-establishing this link from Devonshire Road to Bittacy Hill as part of a strategic iinvestigation into improving east-west movement across the borough. The Council has not agreed any scheme and there is no funding allocated. Any future proposals will be subject to public scrutiny and comment'.
The council has still not clarified as to why the redevelopment of Sanders Lane is highlighted in their Corporate Policy, with a black and white deadline of 2011. For clarity to everyone, this is a seperate document.
Huge thanks to SSL instigators, Bittacy and Sanders Residents Association (BASRA) for bringing this matter to everyones attention, especially Val and Annie for having the initiative to start the door to door campaigning.
Thank you also to those ladies who have very kindly contacted SSL and are collecting signatures door to door. This greatly helps the campaign, as a number of the community do not have access to computers and unfortunately the SSL telephone number was not published in the local press, so it is very important that we continue to make people aware of this issue. We have added a new page - Petition Sheets. In the absence of the SSL petitions, which we are unable to store on this website, it is possible to print off this Petition Sheets page and pass to anyone who supports our campaign and either e-mail the details back to us or we can have the sheet collected from any address in Mill Hill.
22/06/08 - Step by Stealthy Step, a report by local resident John Ware, is published on this website.
22/06/08 - Dr Natelson (The London Wildlife Trust - Barnet Group). Report published on this website.
20/06/08 - London Assembly Member Jenny Jones (Green Party) pledges her support for the Save Sanders Lane campaign.

Press Release - Monday 16th June 2008 - Andrew Dismore MP backs the Save Sanders Lane Campaign
DISMORE BACKS SANDERS LANE CAMPAIGN
Andrew Dismore, Labour Member of Parliament for Hendon, has visited Sanders Lane to support the campaign against the Council’s plans to turn Sanders Lane into a two-lane main road
“I was very pleased to have the opportunity to meet local residents and to hear about their concerns, at first hand, on the site.
“This is a country footpath, widely used by ramblers, cyclists, pedestrians and many others. The lane is a part of Mill Hill’s “green lungs” and it is ludicrous to suggest that this should be turned into a main road.
“I will be supporting the residents all the way in their efforts to block this proposal.”
